Biking instead of driving for short trips can provide many benefits, both to the environment and your health. Biking greatly reduces pollution and is much less stressful than sitting in rush-hour traffic. You could also ride your bike to the bus stop or light rail stations for longer trips. Bicycling is one of the easiest ways to exercise and it provides many benefits, including increased stamina and muscle tone, improved cardiovascular fitness, reduced stress, and it burns lots of calories! (Around 300 calories per hour).
Live Green Apartments does many things to support biking and has been listed by the League of American Bicyclists as a Bicyclist Friendly Business.
- We support Nice Ride Minnesota, where people simply take a bike when they need one, and return it to any station in the system when they arrive at their destination. It’s quick, easy and affordable. There is a Nice Ride Station next to our apartments at Grand Ave & Dale St.
- We coordinated a project with the Grand Avenue Business Association (GABA), Macalester Groveland Community Council (MGCC), the Summit Hill Association (SHA), the City of Saint Paul, and Dero Bike Racks to install 66 bike racks along Grand Ave (totaling 150 bike parking spaces).
- We support local bike nonprofits, including Express Bike Shop (exbike.com) and Cycles for Change (cyclesforchange.org), by donating any bikes that are left behind by residents.
- We offer bike storage areas, with bike route posters and tool kits to help residents make biking easier.
